Ireland researchers, Dr Christian Holscher and Dr Calum Sutherland, believe that there may be a connection between Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Their research centers around the protein GLP1, which is currently being investigated as a new treatment for diabetes.

They already know that GLP1 has an effect on the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. If the Alzheimer’s and diabetes link is confirmed, the researchers feel confident that making simple lifestyle changes will reduce the chance of an individual developing Alzheimer’s disease.
